Romantic Times Booklovers Convention

This convention looks like a lot of fun. I am a subscriber to the Romantic Times Magazine. I subscribe, not so much for the reviews, but for the publication dates of romance books. It's a convenient way to see what is hitting the shelves each month. In the back of every magazine is an ad for the booklovers convention. Here is a link to the conventions website. I have to admit it sure does look like fun. They have all kinds of temptations for romance readers like me. They have costume parties, book signings and lots of opportunities to get FREE books and meet famous authors. It sounds like a blast. Has anyone gone to this extravaganza in the past or is planning on going this year? If you have anything to comment about it I would love to hear. I myself am thinking of saving up and attending next year. Anyone... anyone? Bueller... Bueller?

Hi Jill! :)
I have a friend who went last year when it was in Houston, TX (I think?) and she had so much fun that she is trekking all the way from CA to Pittsburgh, PA in April! I'm about a six hour drive to Pittsburgh, but I can't go for the whole conference because of family responsibilities right now. And it is very expensive. But I did toy with the idea of going just for the signing... so many of my favorite authors will be there.

The RT convention will be in Orlando in 2009, right? If you live close enough your expenses shouldn't be too bad and I say definitely go for it! It sounds fun.

I think in 2010 its in Washington DC? That is only 4 hours from me so might be worth it...

RT is mostly geared toward authors. I recently learned that some authors and groups of authors do reader-author conferences and those sound really fun. I wish someone in the NY Metro area would do one.

Oh man, if they schedule this for Chicago some day, I would totally be there. (If it was recently here, don't tell me. That would just break my heart.)

Christine, Orlando next year - sweet! I am so there. You definitely should go to the book signing. They have some other event that is free too. You should check out the website.

Shannon, I have no idea where they have been held in the past. If you queried Romantic Times I am sure they would tell you.

I went to one they held in Toronto Ontario a number of years ago now and I had a wonderful time!! I went by myself and shared a room with 3 strangers; that part didn't work out so well, but other than that it was terrific. For three or four days (can't remember now) I was totally surrounded by 'my own kind' and it was a great feeling knowing that there were so many others like me.

Kristie, Hmmm, sharing a room could be interesting. Everyone has their 'habits' so to speak. I think it would be hard to share a room with someone you don't know at all. I am glad you had such a good time though. I think it would be really fun to meet other fans.

Katie, Please excuse me for being ignorant, but who is Adrian Paul? Is he a book cover model?

Oooh, RWA that is so exciting. I expect you to report back to us unfortunates that won't be able to attend. That way we will be able to live vicariously through you.

Adrian Paul was the start of the tv show Highlander. He was Duncan McCloud for 6 years. It was a sprin off from the movie with Sean Connery. He is one sexy mo fo. Verr verra sexy.

Katie, I was at the website and Adrian Paul will be at a special dinner saturday night but the dinner is not included in the convention and a ticket is $100 if you want to attend. But the proceeds go to charity (I don't know which one). Man, I don't know if I could afford that after paying for all the convention and hotel fees. Since I am not going at all this year, I don't know what I am worrying about :) I wonder what they will have next year.
