Series Sunday - Masters of Time
Brenda Joyce has a time-travel series called the Masters of Time. I am a huge sucker for time-travel novels. There is just something about an old-fashioned, controlling hero paired up with a modern woman. There is a lot of time jumping in the books and parts of the books take place in the past and then other parts take place in the present. The heroes are warriors sworn to protect innocence and were gifted with all kinds of powers. One of them being time-travel. My personal favorite so far in the series is book two, Dark Rival. Although, not all these books have lived up to my expectations, it is still a series I've enjoyed and am following closely.
Brenda Joyce has a website specifically for her Masters of Time series. If this series sounds like something you are interested in, then definitely check out this website. You can read chapters from all the books and see if her writing style appeals to you. I personally think that you can read the books in any order. Each book stands alone, it's just that some of the characters appear in multiple books.
Series Reading Order:
1. Dark Seduction (Malcolm and Claire)
2. Dark Rival (Royce and Allie)
3. Dark Embrace (Aidan and Brie)
4. Dark Victory (Black and Tabitha)
5. Dark Lover (Ian and Samantha) Releases September 2009

Oh, I always thought those books were historicals... Hmmm, I don't usually read Brenda Joyce... Perhaps I should start?
Nath, I do really like Brenda Joyce. I happen to like really angsty heroes, but I know that sometimes they can really get on other readers nerves. I think the book I enjoyed the most by her was Splendor. That was a good book and it is just a straight historical, no series or time-travel to it. If you want to give her a try, I would recommend that one.
I really like Brenda Joyce. I've read a ton of her historicals and love them. I like this series. It's not gotten great reviews overall but it's entertaining for me and it just draws me to the next book. I have the latest I now just have to read it! lol
Great review.
Tracy, I think Brenda Joyce is one of those authors who fly under the radar. I think she is very talented. I'd like to see her get more recognition.
I started this series because I think that Brenda Joyce is one of the best historical writers living. She has been a long time favourite of mine, and I was excited to see her jump to a new genre. And like you, I like time travel.
I hated Dark Seducation. http://readingbythefountain.blogspot.com/2007/05/dark-seduction.html
The second one, Dark Rival, was better, but I have yet to read the ones after that. I do plan on it because I'm a big Brenda Joyce fan girl, but it's taken a very long time to get the taste of the first book of this series out of my mouth.
Remind me to read the third one ASAP.
Seneca, Dark Seduction wasn't that good. I didn't hate it but some of the stuff was laughable and made me cringe. I liked Dark Rival a lot better. I hope this latest book, Dark Victory is more like Dark Rival.
I read the first two books in this series. Or was it just the first? I don't remember now. LOL But I do know that I own the first three books and recently bought the fourth on a whim at Target. I agree that these books aren't fantastic, but there's just something about the premises that I just love! Maybe it is the time travel and the amusing conflicts that the difference in time period "cultures" causes with the hero and heroine's expectations of the relationship. It's fun!
I just finished Dark Victory and it is along the lines of book 2, Dark Rival. Yay!!!!!!!!!!
This series is really good. I bought Dark Lover a few weeks back and read it in 2 days. I am a big fan of Aidan and Ian. I guess I love the real bad rebels!!!LOL!!! Brenda Joyce is a great writer. I even read one of her historical romance novels Dangerous Love from the DeWarene Dynasty. It was really good. I even done a blog post about the series.
Hi Fat Chick!! Thanks for commenting and following me :) (I so totally don't want to call you the Fat Chick because it sounds so disrespectful). But I LOVE Brenda Joyce too! There is just something special about her writing, but it is hard for me to project to others. Her heroes are very yummy! I haven't read Dark Lover yet. Currently it is sitting in my TBR pile. I should get to it soon.... hopefully! I havn't read any of the DeWaren Dynasty yet, but I did read Splendor which started my love of Joyce. It's a great read and if you are a fan of Joyce you should definitely read it. I also read a time-travel novel which was different, yet very interesting. It was a stand alone and in the 1700s, I think. I can't remember the title off the top of my head. If you check out her website, I am sure you could find it.
