Okay, I know I said I was going to have blog coverage of the Romantic Times Book Lovers Convention while I am there. However, the idea and the reality are two totally separate engines. My days are so jammed pack full that I don't know how I am going to squeeze these posts in.
For now I will just give the best highlights from day one.
In the opening session yesterday, RT gave tribute to the late Kate Duffy, who was an editor for a lot of really big name authors. Several authors came forth to share a story about her with the audience. Jacqueline Frank completely blew me away. First of all, I hardly recognized her. She was not the same woman I met last year. Last year Jacqueline was bound to a motorized scooter or a cane to move around. She literally bounced up on stage over 100 pounds lighter and looked 20 years younger. I was AMAZED at her transformation!!! Her story was so deeply touching and very inspirational.

I attended a really fun session in the morning with Barry Eisler and Jennifer St. Giles. Barry and Jennifer took turns reading sex scenes and the audience would have to guess if a man or a woman wrote the scene. Barry was really good at reading these scenes and would have all the women blushing and giggling. It was a real hoot. The best was when Barry read a scene from one of Victoria Dahl's erotic westerns which featured spanking/dominance. I practically slid onto floor from laughter and embarrassment.

Last but not least, I attended the author chat with Charlaine Harris and MaryJanice Davidson. These two women are a real hoot and you can tell what good friends they are. Some interesting things I learned were that Charlaine had a cameo appearance in the HBO TV series True Blood, which is based on her Sookie books. I watched the show but I somehow completely missed that. Now, I will have to go back and rewatch it. She also said that when starting the Sookie series she always knew from the beginning how it would end, but not how long it would take to get there. She has a 3 book contract left on the series and she hasn't made up her mind if it will end there or not.

Thanks for the update on RT, Jill. It sounds like you're having a blast and I was extra excited to read about Jacqueline Frank. Awesome for her!!
Hugs, VFG

Which is why I always seem to write blog posts at 2AM when I'm at RWA. Just ask Kristie...
Wow - and major kudos to Ms. Frank!
Sounds like you're having a great time. Hey, did Eisler do any blushing? :)
Sounds like fun Jill. There's nothing like hearing those sex scenes read out loud, lol!
Great post, keep them coming!:D
Hey Jill!!! So fun to finally meet you!!
VFG - Yeah it was amazing about Jacqueline Frank. I did have an amazing time. Now that it's over with I am trying to recooperate, LOL!
Wendy - You sure are a trooper. I wasn't about to try to write anything at 2 in the morning! Who knows what nonsense I would be sprouting.
Hilcia - Oh.My.God. I just about fell out of my chair everytime Barry would read a scene. I think out of the whole conference that panel was my favorite.
CJ!!!! It was so very nice to finally put a face with the name. I wish you the best in your new journey as a published author!
Hi Jill,
This is a great recap. I adore the photo of you and nath. That's exactly how I picture both of you whenever I visit your blogs. :D
LOL, Jill, it really sucks that your phone doesn't have a zoom!! I'm really disappointed I didn't get to go to the Barry Eisler and Jennifer St. Giles session, although the YA panel was really interesting too... Sigh, so many difficult choices!
