Halfway through the year

Wow, can you believe it? We are halfway through 2008 already. I thought I would highlight my favorite reads so far this year. I will choose the top five books I have read that have been published this year. I have read a total of 80 books and of those 80, 24 of them were published this year.

This was a wonderful historical novel. I usually don't enjoy spy stories, but this one broke the rule. The heroine Annique had just the right balance of quick wit and vulnerability to make me love her.

Lisa Kleypas has done an incredible job with her latest contemporary. She takes the tragic subject of spousal abuse and weaves an incredible tale of self recovery. Plus, she writes some the hottest heroes in romance today and Hardy Cates is no exception.

Mary Margret Daughtridge is a newcomer to romance. She brings a fresh realistic look into the life of our military men. Jax Graham might be a navy SEAL, but he is just a man trying to do right by his son, scared to death he is going to do the wrong thing. I fell in love with him just like Pickett did.

I am a sucker for first loves reunited. Sophi and Marc have to over come what seem like insurmountable odds. The journey to their happy ever after is fraught with difficulties and this makes for quite a nail-biting read.

This book is nothing but non-stop-fun from start to finish. Cade and Holly are a hoot with their constant, lively conversations. There are so many classic one-line zingers in this book, it is hard for me to choose a favorite.

Honorable mention

I also want to point out the most recent release in the Mercy Thompson series. Even though this book isn't strictly a romance (urban fantasy with romantic elements), I do believe this book deserves a mention. Mercy Thompson is a great heroine. I love this series so far and can't wait to see what's heading Mercy's way in future books.

Holy cow! I didn't realize that 2008 is more than halfway over! Sheesh!

I read and really liked The Spymaster's Lady, but it wasn't the be all and end all for me that it seemed to be for everyone else.

I did love Unlawful Contact. That whole series is just a big winner with me. And I adore her historicals as well.

The Cole series hasn't been doing it for me, but I'm not a huge paranormal fan. I tried, though...

Out of your top 5, I have read 2: SEALed with a Kiss and Dark Desires... while both were enjoyable, they wouldn't make my top 5 list :P I do have Unlawful Contact, but for some reason, I can't bring myself to read it ^_^;

As for the honorable mention LOL.. I have to say, Iron Kissed was my least favorite in the series ^_^;

but these are the top 5 of the books that were published in 2008 right? not of the books you've read in 2008?

Lori, I know what you mean, time flies! I haven't read any of Pamela Clare's historicals. I definitely will be looking into her back list. I like her writing style.

Nath, I know, it seems we have different taste in books. What about Iron Kissed didn't you like? Was it what happened to Mercy at the end?

Yes, I only chose books that were published this year.

Hi Jill :) No, it wasn't really what happened at the end. It just don't like fae... and the intrigue didn't really grab me in this one... and we don't really have different taste in books LOL :) maybe differing opinions, but not always :)

Can't wait to see what you thought of Caressed by Ice! :)

Blue Eyed Devil is my number one pick of 2008. This book hit me in ways you cannot imagine.
Hmmm Cade and his lickable horns is a very worthy read also :D

Nath, Your right, it's not so much a different taste in books, but a difference of opinion! I did like the premise of the Fae. I liked that they each have a different power and what not. I also though the different missing Fae items were interesting.

Caressed by Ice is coming up tonight!

Seneca, Oh, you are going to love Mercy. Glad you joined the crowd with this one!

Katie, I loved Cade! I don't know what it is, but the combination of the "bad" boy with the "good" girl gets me every time!

I think you and I have very similar tastes, Jill. Of your list, I've read three so far: SpyMaster's Lady, BlueEyed Devil and Iron Kissed. Right now, my BlueEyed Devil and Iron Kissed would by on my Top 2008 List, too! :)

Christine, Great minds think alike! Do you think you will read any of the others, since we have similar taste? Do you read romantic suspense at all or do you pretty much stick with paranormal?

I do prefer paranormal, urban fantasy, and sci fi romance over any other genre right now. I think because those genres have a bigger escapism factor.

I do read romantic suspense, historical, contemporary, and a bit of erotica, but usually only those that get rave reviews. Like Unlawful Contact. I should pick that one up.

I have Kresley Cole's most recent two releases on my TBR. I'd like to get to them soon because I absolutely adore the IAD series.

I'm loving the Kresley Cole books! I'm just sad I have to wait so long for the next "Immortals After Dark" book.
