To Review or not to Review?

Okay, recently I had one of those books I just couldn't get through. It took me four days to read just under 200 pages of a 300 page book. The characters were dull and the plot was going no where. So guess what? I gave up. Yep, I put the book down and picked up another one. I really have no desire even at a later date to pick it back up so I gave it away knowing I wouldn't ever finish it.

So my question for you is this: even though I didn't finish the book should I still review what I did read? Do you want to know that I couldn't finish the book and why? Or do you feel that if I reviewed the book it wouldn't be a fair review? I have set up a poll in my side bar that you can vote on if you have an opinion on this subject. Any thoughts are welcome. I am just curious as to how the majority of you feel about it.

You could always do a mini review up to the point you read.

I personally feel there is nothing wrong with a DNF review. Especially if you explain that you couldn't/didn't finish the book, and why.

Definitively review it! We want to know why and which book it is :) okay, seriously, I think these are the most interesting reviews because what would make us not finish the book?

YES! Bad or good - we want to know...

I agree with the rest, I want a review from you as well. Just to find out why you didn't finish it, what are your motivatyions, feelings and thoughts about this particular book that made you close it?

Wow, seems like the consensus is overwhelmingly positive. I guess you guys want me too keep those reviews coming! Man, now I have to write the review (just kidding) :)

Hmmm...that's tough. If it was me, and I couldn't bring myself to finish the book (which has happened) I normally say, why bother? You are only investing even more time into a story you didn't particularly enjoy. That's just my opinion of course.

On the flip side, some people would like to know your thoughts up to that point, so, yes, you could do a mini-review.

If I feel up to it then I post a DNF review telling why I didn't like it.

I'm about to do that. I tried to read Robin Schone's The Lover. I didn't like it one bit. As soon as I get the time, I will post a DNF review.

You may not be able to give it a grade, but you can certainly give it a review. Please share your thoughts!
